 Workplace mediation involves a voluntary and confidential discussion between those involved in the conflict, facilitated by a mediator. The goal is for attendees to resolve the dispute themselves, by making informed and practical decisions. 

The process is entirely voluntary, and the mediator will not force a decision or impose an outcome.

Where a party still works for or with the employer, parties may be able to maintain or re-establish good working relationships.  

When private or sensitive matters are involved, the parties often prefer to discuss and resolve such matters in the confidential context of a mediation, without the embarrassment or discomfort of public proceedings.
